I think what SeanDL was getting at, was the possible dissolution of the original form of the IP, ie. comic books, not the that the IP would be forgotten. As in Disney may decide to dissolve Marvel Comics someday, but they will definitely keep producing products based on Marvel IP. Though I am sure SeanDL can answer...

This is definitely true, and Disney aren’t ever likely to get rid of their IPs entirely. Almost n0-one in the industry guards them more carefully (they’ve massively influenced US IP law, even, for example).

After the franchise wars, all comic books are Taco Bell!

After the imminent Mega-merger singularity, it’ll just be Weyland-Yutani and Buy N Large duking it out in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

I doubt it. Disney has always jealously guarded their IPs. I could see the MCU being reduced in prominence, but they would just reboot it or try again. They roll out a new attempt to keep Mickey Mouse in front of kids every few years. And so on. They understand building child hood affinity for characters means life

The good news is all of these creatives are free to go on with their lives free of corporate BS. The bad news is all the DC characters are owned by said BS corporation. Lex Luthor finally wins?

He has been the most successful of the originals for quite some time. If you expand past the core seven, though, a case could be made for either him or Kirkman.

Yeah, but on the other side of the equation, Bob Harras should just stay the fuck away from comics in general.

This is what unregulated capitalism does. The end result is a monopoly in each market, or maybe a duopoly.

Look, I know I always say DC and Marvel need to bring in someone from outside the comics world to clean house of bad habits and ensure their future...but by that I meant someone from another branch of the publishing industry. Not esports! Why the hell would you want an esport person to run a comic company?

Layoffs in the best of times—spurred often by the misunderstanding of the upper echelon on what actually goes on day-to-day at a company—are devastating. During a global pandemic? Downright cruel.

With yesterday’s episode of Stargirl, DC Universe has no new video content to stream anytime soon. Most likely, it will be the last new content they stream. If DC Universe has a future, it’s going to be a as a comics delivery app. Maybe without video, they can expand to more countries.

“Superman never made any money... saving the world from Solomon Grundy...”

AT&T, for reasons inexplicably unknown, is looking to bring in a general manager “from the world of esports” to replace this lost editorial talent, indicating a grim prospect for the publisher, even as it continues to mine its decades of work for new film and TV properties.

This reminds me a bit of when Time Warner/AOL cut WCW loose back in the day. They were certainly losing money on it, but it was really just a show the execs put on to try and hide the real fuck ups from the shareholders. Well, and the execs always hated owning a wrestling company and were just looking for an excuse to

I was worried since the AT&T shareholder revolt happen that this would be bad for those who are not in the AT&T cellular division, and here it comes.

This is a reminder that megamergers has its draw backs when you are now the main gem in the CEO/Shareholders minds and just a expendable tax write off....

My hope is they

This is a bloodbath, made all the worse by taking place during a pandemic that has already left millions out of work.

It has nothing to do with that, and more to do with AT&T making a major mistake with their shareholders(Who revolted) and we are all now feeling that effects of them trying to “correct” the ship and cut cost back..

DC unfortunately is a part of arm that they want to cut billions of dollars from, but NOT lose the IP

What got me to sink about 200 hours into Warframe (I’ve not played it for about a year or so now) is the fundamentally charming *weirdness* of its sci-fi setting. It seems to really embrace it and its better for it
