I loved this show and thought it was consistently funny, sometimes slyly like with the throwaway lines and sometimes outrageously hilarious like in the finale. Such a great payoff in the last episode. Very much looking forward to another season and maybe AVClub can assign another reviewer who will appreciate It.

Sure, ok. There's any number of interesting ways the story could go. I'm just saying based on the execution of the last episode, I have serious doubts that the series will attempt to tackle the big questions or be anywhere near as interesting as the pilot suggested.

I thought this week's episode was far worse than the pilot, mostly for the reasons the reviewer thinks made it better. It gave me a pretty good idea about what kind of show it will be and I was disappointed. Ending each ep with some slight difference to Lucy's life as she originally knew it is going to get old fast.

All Through the Night gives chills too.

XTC's Dear God, especially from the midpoint to the end. The exasperation/resignation in that kid's voice at the end gets me every time.

Same here!

Thanks for mentioning the reverse horror movie logic with Barb's demise. No reviewers so far seem to be picking up on it as they complain about the clunkiness of the teens' storyline.

I loved the 70s version as a kid. You've convinced me to give the latest a chance (also, Tituss Burgess being involved doesn't hurt).

Greg songs where he's miserable may be unpopular with AVClub but my fave song for the season is I Could If I Wanted To. It's perfectly executed in his performance and the genre it imitates. Which is saying a lot since that genre isn't one that I typically liked.

I was disappointed in the pileup of coincidences by this episode.
