Actually, 1-2Kbps is pretty darn impressive. I remember the days of 2400 baud modems, and they weren't that long ago. That was for sending a signal over a copper phone line. This is a signal covering nearly 5 billion miles, come from a transmitter that uses less power than most CFL light bulbs.
