EoE rules as a kind of “fuck you” to people who didn’t like the original, admittedly compromised ending to the series. What more could they possibly want from him? Anno made this hyper personal show about wrestling with his own demons and feeling out of control from his own art. It’s a phenomenal and ambitious work.

I agree with the first two movies, maybe the third. But I feel like the last movie and its sense of closure really hits harder if you’ve seen the whole things.  Especially if you were with it from closure to the beginning.  The catharsis at the end is, in part, Shinji’s realization that he is very much like his father

Eva as a property, both the show, original movies and the redos is very interesting in just charting what Anno is going through as a person. It charts his depression as a youth and his dad issues so well but then it starts to represent his creative burn out and pressure as a hit artist trying to out do his last work.

NGE in a nutshell, indeed

Congratulations!

End of Evangelion is so fixated on how Shinji’s sexuality defines his relationships compared to the TV series that I have a hard time buying the “oh, it’s just what the show would have been if they had the budget” argument. The show was already quite interested in it, so that’s a bit of an accomplishment, but it felt

There’s theory that your enjoyment level of Evangelion is in an inverse relationship with how deep your depression/loneliness is when watching.

I’ve never liked EoE because it is such a downer ending. Like, it’s not that I need a happy ending for every story, but EoE is grim to an almost comical point. You’ve got two kids (one of whom is injured) alone on a beach in an apocalyptic world with no one else in the world around. They’ll be dead pretty soon for

I like the ending of the TV show better, because I like Shinji learning how to imagine in a place in the world through the process of animation, but I love the use of live-action in the movie. The way it both acknowledges the passionate fan audience while talking about the importance of having a life beyond fiction is

Agreed, having seen the series and the reboot movies, I prefer the reboot movies, less sad Shinji bitching that he doesn’t want to pilot the Eva. Also the series in general is just really confusing, at least it was to me. Like Unit 01, was made from Shinji’s mom, or her soul, and are like giant humans made from Adam,

Congratulations!

Ccorrect. The creator is directly ommentating on his fanbase, one of the most legendary burns thats ever been.

Congratulations!

I definitely think the reboot movies are better to start with, and if you reeeeally liked those, you can go back and watch the show plus this movie

Yes.

When Trump hears the chant “four more years, four more years,” ad infinitum, he thinks it’s cumulative.

If this is the message you wanted to send, be civil, then that should be the point of the film. Not centered on a journalist’s journey to the White House as the Texifornia army encircles D.C.* — It should be about how the two sides put aside their differences and take decisive action against a fascist leader. It’s

On one hand, if he’s talking about how conservatives and progressives are generally in most countries, then he’s making a general statement about them.

We should try Trump out again and if it doesn’t work, we’ll simply vote him out.
