Growing up with Spielberg as a contemporary director I have to admit I did take him for granted at times, although many indelible films I’ve kept in my mind all these years are from his talent. You think of the range of genres he has tackled over the years, from the deep dramas, to blockbuster action, musicals, SciFi,

The cycle of being a film fan: “Spielberg is great!” to “Spielberg is overrated blockbuster sentimentality, I only watch art films” to “Spielberg is a talented director”

People need to get over themselves. Honestly I think as a culture we’ve been sleeping on Spielberg’s work for the last 10-15 years.

i know it seems like the commentariat here are really down on this one, i’m really looking forward to it, particularly after how surprisingly hard west side story hit me.

I can’t believe it’s not...

And her last name is actually “Margarine.”

Damn, that sucks to hear. I had no personal connection to the guy (too old to listen to kiddie singers back in the day), but I knew who he was of course.

Good reps don’t do this. I worked for a boutique-sized talent management co, later a small agency. We were able to retain a lot of bookable actors because we had an understanding with them, which could be summed up as maybe “one for me, one for my agent.” We had to have actors willing to work, they couldn’t reject

I’ll still check this out because of the CV of the cast. It’s a shame when a show is stacked full of talent and comes out mediocre (add Space Force to the list of Netflix sitcoms that did this.) That being said, some all-time classic sitcoms have had so-so first seasons before finding their stride in the second.

Nostalgia for Blockbuster isn’t necessarily about the the brand itself. It’s nostalgia for walking into a video store, browsing the isles, picking out some candy and going home to watch it on a Friday night. Or in my case, picking out a game rental and ordering pizza with my friends. Either way, replace Blockbuster

It’s funny to see the nostalgia for Blockbuster—even I’m guilty of it!—when at the time Blockbuster was huge THEY were the big bad guy for running the little Mom and Pop video stores out of business.

This seems to be the way it works now. Someone is falsely reported as having died, only to actually die a few days later. Weird.

Better than Jerry Lee.

“Along with some tired references to tentacle porn, a genre that hasn’t been popular since the late 80s.

This story is missing the really cool context: this episode all began with one Deviantart image by a Simpsons fan.

“Like what?”

(kind of gratuitously violent at the end, but hey)

“One time, ‘k see, one time this Korean cop had to solve a murder and a pretty girl was staring at him, and she stared and stared and stared and then he used technology like Google and there was some erotic tension and then they figured out that Randy Beaman actually killed all her husbands...’k bye!”

Brilliant film with a brilliant soundtrack, absolutely love it (kind of gratuitously violent at the end, but hey). If you wanna check his other stuff out, Oldboy is a must-see.
