Gm has a long history of screwing up, finally getting it right, and then killing a car. See Fiero, Allante (final year got the Northstar engine), Buick GNX, Reatta (made a convertible the last 2 years), and several others I can’t think of right now.

We got great performance and fuel economy out of a ‘97 Buick Riviera with the supercharged Series II 3800 (L67).

Beautiful car, but it’s too bad Honda went with the standard dash design for that model. The dash on my old ‘96 Prelude was so ahead of it’s time, putting a smile on my face with every turn the key.

What’s wrong with pushrods? Is it just that it’s a proven design that frees up a ton of engine bay or do you own a timing belt company or something?

Don’t forget GM put wider front tires (compared to the rears) on the Pontiac. Quite a unique feature due to the FWD problem they had going on.

This is probably the best “bring back of a retro design” I’ve ever seen. The Mustang, Camaro and Corvette “bring backs” pale in comparison, IMHO.

How many transmission has it devoured?

I always prefered the supercharged 3.8 to the later V8s for those cars (well, the older versions of those cars). My dad had a ‘00 Bonneville SSEi, black on black, and as a kid I thought that thing was awesome.
