Something to be said for a team having a common enemy. It’s unfortunate when it was your coach.
Don’t waste our time here, Tim. Where’s the Haisley piece crediting this entire performance to Klinsi’s enduring genius?
It’s true he was misused, but he was unhappy playing there and didn’t feel like he fit in with the team, even beyond his role on the field (he was famously nicknamed “Beavis” by teammates). I didn’t mean it as an exact parallel, and being European and established, Bergkamp wasn’t in the same situation as Donovan, but…
I agree with the general tack being taken here, which is that Lando is the greatest we’ve had, and that Pulisic has the potential to be better.
That’s true, but I think it should be pointed out that Dononvan didn’t settle in Germany for lifestyle reasons, i.e., he wasn’t comfortable over there. He can be criticized for that I suppose, but that happens. Dennis freaking Bergkamp didn’t settle in Serie A for example. In other words, it’s not that he wasn’t good…
Americans keep asking why we can’t produce a world beater. We produce an 18 year old from Hershey, Pennsylvania (holy shit that’s American) who’s scoring and assisting at will in the UCL and Bundesliga. Former German legends like Lothar Matthaeus are heaping praise on him. Respected Bundesliga commentators call him…
Which policies are you referring to? Universal healthcare? Free education? A way higher minimum wage? Campaign finance reform? Those are the things I hear socialists asking for most aggressively right now, and frankly, I think they’re fairly popular.
Yup! The universal loathed entitlement programs prove this! I can’t tell you how many old people who are begging politicians to take away their Medicare and Social Security! They hate free things they need to live!
Like that social security that old voters hate so much.
Except... they’re not. Socialist ideals, taken outside the context of socialism, are actually incredibly popular.
The social safety net needs to be expanded like crazy. If you can afford to own an NFL team, you can pay more taxes every year. Probably 70% of our social and cultural conflicts could be eliminated if people were simply not forced to live on poverty’s razor edge.
We’ll never really know that until we get voter participation above, say, 80%. Right now, less than a quarter of the population is deciding elections, and often out of misinformed fear.
Only if you’re simple-minded idiot who forgets where he came from.
Capitalism is a philosophy based on ambition.
Not for me. If anything the workforce has only pushed me to the left. That will happen when you realize your CEO is incompetent, but still makes 400x as much money as you do because he has nice hair.
are you offering to bankroll me in scandanavia for 6 months? because i’m definitely in
yeah, we need to ensure there’s a good amount of trumpist republicans in our politics so everything stays balanced out
You’re severely overestimating the overlap between the audience of Deadspin readers who would be in any way influenced by that particular take and people who had any hand in a) not voting for Hillary or b) actively voted for Trump. Enjoy your histrionics, internet commenter, you’re really making a difference on this…
i know this is meant to be a smug “you caused trump,” but if the author lives in nyc (and I think he does!), then he had absolutely no influence on the election at all. she already won the popular vote. she already (almost certainly) won the district in which the author would be voting.
