Why mid-engine? Physics. Even if the Miata has a 50/50 weight distribution, that doesn’t mean it’s perfect. It still has a more unfavorable polar moment of inertia than if its mass was right over its pivot point.
People aren’t complaining so much about the lack of power steering, but rather the flagrant fact that a powerless steering car should come with a manual to match its intended philosophy...
this car is going to lose it’s value on the used market for 5 years or so.. maybe down to $40k from $55k or so... then it will skyrocket. together with inflation, and increasing weight through more safety regulations.. this will be that car that people say “alfa offered a beautiful coupe and spider with a carbon tub,…
I was at the local Alfa dealer this weekend with my wife, here in Denver. Our sales guy said that htey haven’t sold a single one all year, they usually just trade their current cars with other dealers around the country.
Yeah, “unforgiving” or “difficult” are understandable in the search for the proverbial “pure” experience. But “poorly built” and “unnecessarily old-fashioned” are something else. To have no power steering yet be auto only? That’s just weird.
I see what you’re saying. The difference here is that the Miata was up to the quality standards of cars in its price range when it was built. Materials, etc. have improved greatly since then, and so we can’t compare it fairly to new cars like the ND. The new 4C’s quality apparently (from what I read) compares poorly…
Well, just like there are people who put up with crappy relationships because the sex is great, I suppose there are those who put up with their crappy car for some thrill it gives them, like, say, cashing in on an unlimited CarMax warranty. As long as no laws (or bones) are broken, I guess I shouldn’t judge.
I have said it here many times, this car was the wrong car and executed in the worst possible way. Alfa should have made a new Spyder for mid 30s money, but they went ahead a made a car with very little appeal.
A true Alfa! A friend described the end of his 147 as “it had a stroke”. Everything electrical on the right hand side of the car - lights, indicators, door locks, the lot - just stopped working…
I drove one a couple of months ago. It’s a baby 488 in a lot of ways, without the elbow room or amenities that broaden the spectrum of things that you can actually do with the car. This thing is very close to being a single-focused track-day car, even more so than a car such as a Viper ACR. The steering is wonderful,…
When was the last time a car was offered without power steering but only an automatic transmission? I honestly can’t think of a single example.
In this case, i can’t agree more.
Finish the front trunk, so you can actually use it. Add a manual option. Add two additional variants: a cheaper, N/A version with the Miata’s engine and a more expensive version with either the turbo V6 from the upcoming Giulia, or make a new mini Pantera by throwing in the 485 HP Hemi. I bet it'd fit better than the…
Yeah, based on the amenities of the car(or lack thereof) the only demographic this car might appeal to is the type to buy a car with a manual. Taking that option away most likely didn’t help their sales, which is ironic, considering that all other manufacturers are unable to move their manuals...
Sales suck because this is a car that needs a proper manual.
I don’t legally own the $10 pizza I ordered online, and yet Pizza Hut still invested money in allowing me to track when, precisely, the pepperoni is placed onto it. It’s almost like attentive customer service and transparency help a company succeed in pleasing its customers and earning repeat business!
Lol....”i prefer a Dodge over a Porsche”.... said no one...ever.
Problem is a Tesla can’t do this all day. And I’m not referring to the charge, as that would be like saying the Porsche can’t because it needs fuel. The Tesla needs a cool down period similar to a GTR. However as this video shows the 991.1 Turbo S can do it all day and I’m certain there’s nothing short with the 991.2.
