I hate how it looks, though. A Mazda3 is okay with a screen, but a Miata....I’m with Travis on this. Doesn’t belong.

Solyndra was one of those cases where a little digging exposed the fact “kickback” was written in invisible ink on the documents. What was really frustrating was that they never published conversion rates... a fact repeatedly pointed out to me by my boss, who was trying to get a project in on the same funding setup.

The government has decided it wants businesses to exist to do what SpaceX is doing and is offering incentives for businesses to start companies to do that. Musk is just acting in the way the government has incentivized him to.

Ah yes I was correct! Landmine, sidestepped.

we are not giving a check to the government works just as well...

He seems to be making good use of the money.

Did you bring with you hundreds of new taxpaying jobs?

My favorite story:

We take in $300B in corporate taxes. We give back half of it in the form of subsidies and abatement. DC begs companies to repatriate their profits and invest in the US.

SpaceX alone has saved the US government more than that already:

Were Howard Hughes and Kelly Johnson addicted to your tax dollars? Well yes, yes they were.

He borrows money and pays it back early? WHO CARES!!!! LEAVE TONY STARK ALONE!!

Over the last three decades we’ve spent over $17 billion on sports stadiums via bonds. You know what, at least Musk and his companies are providing us with Cars and electricity and they aren’t exactly rolling around in money vaults. I’m ok with my tax dollars going to Tesla, NASA and other nerds.

I’d dare say all of this is a better investment than an unneeded fighter plane that is ten years and $170 billion (and counting) over budget.

Why does no one complain when we throw money at defense contractors? At least the crazy shit we threw money at Musk to build actually works most of the time.

I’m most likely confused but I do have a boat load of fun in my 996 Turbo which only cost me 10 grand more than a new Miata, has 38,000 miles on it WITH all wheel drive but weighs a 1000 pounds more than a Miata. Oh, she has the x50 option which means she only has 300 MORE hp than the Miata to make up for that 1000

Ew. So, the Sport is the only one worth getting, then. (ETA: or not, because it doesn’t come with an LSD. Mazda, you fail at option packages, and big screens are terribad.)

Why not just make it a solid piece of plexiglass and use edge locates, LED laser based interrupt sensors? IE, vertical and horizontal bars shooting a grid of led lasers across the display with another two bars of little photocells to pick up those lights. When the light is interrupted, calculate where the intersection

I watched part of it’s development cycle, where fairly late in the game Boeing changed the decompression test spec from reasonable (which the previous design used in the KC-767 aerial refueling officer control/display unit passed without issue) to absurd. Touch displays operate in one of several ways. One of the most
