That’s because most women in Minnesota know our state isn’t some liberal paradise, and that by forcing two senate seats open in 2018, we will likely lose Franken’s seat.

OK, just so you know

I would have no problem if she served a term as, say, mayor, then became a senator, then ran for president.

“I would like a President that has experience in government” THIS! YES, THIS!

Yes! I am FINE with her going into politics, but the idea that she can skip straight to president is not ok.

I agree. If she shows that she’s done the necessary work (run for local public office, do community organizing work like Obama, etc.) then more power to her.

Also, between community activist and President he was a senator. So, you know. That’s some experience in government.

Exactly. Oprah, The Rock, etc: Run for something. City Council, Mayor, Dogcatcher, something. But not President. Get some fucking experience other than opinionating and basking in the glory of your fans.

Yeah, one of the dumber Trumpist bumper stickers I saw pre-election was “Don’t vote for career politicians”. This was on a plumber’s truck. Does it also apply to plumbers? Should I not hire career plumbers, but instead get some random person off the street to try to fix my leaking sink?

Yup. I’m not against celebrities getting into politics but you need to start lower down. State house, governor, Congress etc. Get a feel for how it really works. Even Reagan knew this.

Sorry Oprah, but no. Would she be better than Trump? Most definitely. But then so would my four year old. And for all the good Oprah has done, she hasn’t always showed the best judgement either. She’s to blame for the massive platforms of both “Dr” Phil and “Dr” Oz.

I feel like the Democrats running Oprah against Trump would be (a) them learning the exact wrong lesson from 2016 and (b) be even more of an assault on the office of president. Not because of Oprah, she’s fantastic and the world is a better place for her being in it. Rather, because I don’t want to see the Democrats

Just because you’re beloved in the private sector does not mean that will translate into public approval ratings. You can get away with things as a private citizen that will quickly come to light under the scrutiny of our political process and develop into a category 5 shitstorm when you throw your hat into the ring.

NO MORE TV PEOPLE!!!!

Exactly. Oprah is smart, successful, popular, and charismatic, which are great qualities. That doesn’t mean she should be president. It’s a serious job, and needs to be treated as such.

I feel like this lesson should have been learned before November 2016.

She peddles a lot of nonsense like The Secret and mindless consumerism. We need *more* critical thinking in society, not less. Also, the idea of lurching between nice/mean billionaire overlords should make any respectable American puke.

Agreed. I love Oprah, but we need someone with political experience.

No more celebs that have no political experience for pres.

I need people to stop drafting celebrities to be President, especially Oprah.
