My big boy - Boxcar was his name - really struggled initially. He was a rescue who probably didn’t have regular access to food so he ate FAST then threw it back up. Once he learned how to slow down he calmed down and lost the weight. Now that took about 3 - 4 months though! Good luck with your big ones!!
AND a cat on a diet is not a pleasant puss to be around. I had a ginger boy I rescued who weighed in at ~21 lbs. Had to get him down to at least 15 - 17 lbs for his health.
