I have no idea what his intention was, but as a florist, I do know that it is very common for cotton stalks, cotton bolls to be used in Fall centerpieces. It was pretty thoughtless to use them in centerpieces on this occasion though... and collard greens & cornbread?! How about a steak or a nice fish dinner...
