This is “basically” another bad review by another bad writer. Anytime an article incorporates the word “fucking” on this site all credibility ends. Not because as an adult I can’t handle that word. There was actually a lot to like about this episode (and the series) despite the constant string of nitpicking the show has undergone in every io9 review since it was released. I say this as someone who is a die-hard Trekkie and who expected to loathe Discovery.
