Wow. The sci-fi universe I've been building for a couple of years and am now trying to write within exhibits pretty much all of these characteristics.

Probably because he speaks Japanese and not Chinese.
Honestly, I doubt many of those writers are looking for publicity in the first place. Some fan fic writers definitely are looking to launch a career, but most aren't.
A better analogy might be that the kid shared the story among his small circle of friends and then one of those friends took the story and shared it among his friends to mock.
I can see argument made either way, for or against this decision. Ultimately, I didn't read FFF or Topless Robot, so I'm unaffected. But I trust Ms. Newitz's judgment here.
No, I don't think so. It's evident that Marvel was an even bigger influence than Star Wars on him, so he's probably happy as can be to be where he is.
That last movie's plot sounds a little like Knights of the Old Republic. Of course, that's not a bad thing.
I think you're wrong about the Lawful/Chaotic axis. I see it as the anarchist/statist axis, which is totally viable in real-life.
Good... good...
I imagine he's exaggerating somewhat, but it doesn't surprise me too much. LucasArts has been really poorly managed for a really long time. So I could definitely see something approximately like that happening.
Whatever the case may be, I'm sure Leland Chee will be very busy in the coming years...
For better or worse I think you misinterpreted the article. It was talking about the fact that a particular romance plot that was considered creepy was dropped. Gaider has talked frequently about how he really likes writing romances so I'm certain they'll be in there.
"It still makes me feel like Disney is capitalizing on the extensive brand equity of "Star Wars", rather than doing this because of a desire to continue and be true to its tradition."
Okay, I gotta admit: that's pretty nifty.
So even though it's actually Rhodey under there they're going with the name Iron Patriot? Eh, I guess I'm cool with that. It's a better name than War Machine anyway, even if it's associated with a supervillain whose existence is (and probably will remain) unconfirmed in the MCU.
One reason I don't think the EU's going to be 100% overwritten (beside the ones I've already mentioned) is that the sequels are likely to take place at a point after most of the EU's already happened. Comments from Mark Hamill and a few other folks suggest that Lucas' original plan for the sequels was to set them…
It appears I misinterpreted CJA's original post. She was talking about the spin-off films rumored to be in the works. In that case, I'd be fine with a Mara Jade film. Scratch that, I'd love to see one.
I actually haven't really played the Paper Mario games but my understanding was their main appeal was A) their wacky humor, B) their turn-based RPG combat, C) their actually well-developed stories, and D) their characters. Removing B, C, and D doesn't sound like a great idea then.
That's an unconfirmed rumor, just so you know. And even if it's true it could just mean creating a Vader-esque character, like Darth Malak from Knights of the Old Republic.
So... Miyamoto convinced them to ditch the aspects of Super Paper Mario that made it unique and fun (interesting story, original characters, etc.).
