"Not that it really matters. The general public doesn't give a fuck about science policy questions or the candidates positions on it. Only intellectuals care about stuff like this and they shall always remain in the minority and never really sway election results. That's the horror of pluralism. So it goes. "
Evolution is the best possible explanation we have available for an enormous number of phenomena. I never at any point said it was an invalid explanation for how any number of things, including antibiotic medication, work. If you want to put words in my mouth and be willfully ignorant, that's on you, not me. I'm done…
"Semantic quibbling. It's still science and it can be and has been made into a policy issue. "
And that's a perfectly valid reason not to vote for somebody. But it's not a policy issue, which is what these questions were about.
I thought someone might continue this line of reasoning.
Yeah, that's the thing. I understand the argument that we need to be careful with our spending, but the budget for NASA is laughably small compared to some of the things neither party wants to cut. It barely make a footprint economically.
Of course, his definition of a "free and open" internet apparently doesn't include net neutrality.
Hopefully they'll include a few questions like these in the actual televised debates. I'm not holding my breath, of course, but that would be best.
Right, but the point is that he was aged pretty heavily. The reason may be different (FOXDIE vs. natural processes) but he was still, effectively speaking, an old man and suffered physically for it. I don't see how that's particularly different from Big Boss just getting older over time.
"No evolution is a fact but like gravity"
I don't know why so many people were in an uproar about Snake's age to begin with. We know he's Big Boss, we know he's getting older, and we know by the time Metal Gear occurs his beard has gone completely white.
"Second, resource exhaustion is best held to the free market, as the supply changes the value of that item changes which will push new innovations and new technologies as the price factor becomes too high."
In common American parlance, conservative = in step with the mainstream views of the GOP.
More or less my thought process as well, though I couldn't help remembering even before that last point how he mocked Obama for talking about climate change during his RNC speech.
To a certain extent, while evolution is a scientific theory and not a religion, that would fall under the same category as questions about faith. What I mean by that is that evolution isn't directly related to federal-level policy making and is instead more of an indicator of the candidate's world view.
I think he [Romney] was more elaborate and actually went into a bit of detail with his answers, but two things.
The same thing kind of happened with Newt Gingrich during the GOP primaries here in the U.S. I personally abhor most of his values and platform but I was saddened when his desire to build a permanent moon base was ridiculed.
It's possible, but in Japan senior employees who've been with a company a long time usually get preferential employment, not a push into retirement. In fact, Japan's cultural bias towards older employees over younger but potentially more talented ones has been a longstanding issue.
Old Snake was significantly more aged than this in MGS4 and Sam Fisher is well over 50 at this point, so Big Boss is hardly in poor company with his age.
