True enough.

Hmm... you may have a point. Fake out the audience, then hit them where it hurts.

I think she is, but the point is that she's not established as a character the way Coulson was. So killing her would have barely any impact on the audience at all.

Thor was at least familiar with Coulson from his last Earth adventure, but it's true that Stark had the only reason to really miss him (though Cap would feel bad just because he's Cap).

See, now you're conflating Loki the god and Loki the supevillain. They're not the same person. The latter is inspired by the former, but they're not the same character. Loki in Norse mythology, for instance, is Odin's blood-brother, not his adopted son. He's also not quite as straight-out villainous.

Well, technically he's just a human with lizard genes transplanted into him. He doesn't necessarily have to replace his penis with a cloaca and hemipenes.

You're the one making weird assumptions. The technology to pulverize a city is inconsequential compared to the power required to travel through the vastness of space. Turning your engines on an enemy is trivial, manipulating gravity to move asteroids is trivial (in fact, we can already do this with our comparatively

I'd argue that Hellboy counts - he's just a superhero with a demonic origin. Scott Pilgrim's a bit more debatable though and Akira I'll definitely grant you.

AFAIK Batman hasn't been "good old campy fun" in the comic books for years now. Ever since Frank Miller reinvented him in the 1980s it seems that "dark and gritty" had been par for the course for Batman.

No problem. Your criticism about Batman not being detective-y enough is a fair one, though I can't think of any Batman films that utilize that characteristic (TAS did though).

"Does Marvel exist in the DC universe and DC in the Marvel universe?"

Which is why I think io9 would have been better off just making this the "10 Best Superhero Films of All Time." Comic book movies are just too broad in scope and once you start including stuff like Akira or Persepolis people are going to kind of expect you to include other classics of non-superhero CBMs.

I love First Class and would trade it for several examples on the list, but I wouldn't call its execution flawless. There are a few problems, such as the piss-poor way the minority characters are handled (probably unintentional, but there you are) and the fact that none of the characters besides Charles, Erik, Raven,

I'm not sure if that was the poster's intention (though it come off that way). I think his point was the The Dark Knight was more intellectual, not necessarily that The Avengers was entirely brainless.

I have to agree with Fall-Apart. How is the boat scene unnecessary? It's the thematic underpinning of the entire film!

China or Russia posing a significant threat is still more believable.

Hearted for the comment. At least I appreciated it :).

It does sound more interesting, though I'm not certain the kind of environment it sounds like the creative team was working in would have been conducive to the idea.

I think the Candy Land film is actually in the works, though I'm not certain.

"hmmm.. not exactly how you came to that conclusion"
