Bojack definitely earned it but it still hurt to hear even knowing he was wrong. As someone who has struggled with depression, I'm sure I'm not the only person who's heard that line before.

I totally agree with you on Charlotte and Bojack not being as close as he thought, and your other points on the sadness of his self-destructiveness… but even if they weren't that close, making a move on the daughter of someone who let you stay at their house for two months, made you a surrogate member of their family…
Californication is one of those shows that I'm embarrassed to admit I watched several seasons of. But in my defense, if you skip every sex scene every ep only takes about 15 minutes to get through!
There is a certain amount of ambiguity. A lot of viewers (myself included) read into the fact that despite saying no to Penny, he left his door open and the lights on… almost as if inviting her to come in and giving him plausible deniability.
I agree with you, I think the writers could do a lot with Bojack nagivating therapy. Hopefully that's the next step we'll see in season three!
As Klint said, it's implied very often. As for his friends not seeing it- I'm sure they do, but Bojack has never made himself an easy person to help.
I have an old, very close friend who, like Bojack, struggles with depression and addiction and makes terrible decisions partly because of how terrible he always feels. I'm one of the few people who hasn't given up on him because I love him and know that he can be a better person but sometimes it's so hard. Watching…
Aw man I spoke too soon :( I'm still happy to see the majority of people here are better than that, then.
I got that "chill" vibe too, which confused me. I think it might have just been the bravado of the theme song combined with his sunglasses. I would have picked up on a numbness there more if they had chosen a slow, brooding song and shown us his blank eyes staring ahead as the settings change around him. That said,…
Something I really dug about the episode was how it deconstructed Bojack's fantasy of Charlotte. She hasn't been waiting for him to come back and find out "what could've been"- it's been 30 years, she's moved on, she has a family.
I've seen several people on reddit try to justify Bojack's actions by claiming that Penny "seduced him into it", that it was technically legal, etc, etc… so glad to see none of that bullshit here. Bojack was the adult in the situation and he fucked up, and the show clearly wanted us to know he was the bad guy here.…
Nope.
“Y'know, when we first met, I was looking for something in my life. And I wanted it so badly that it made me believe you were it. But I think wanting to believe something isn’t the same as something being real, and this isn’t real. I think it’s time we stopped pretending.” Princess's Carolyn's lines here hit me really…
Noticed a Goober cameo at the funeral, good job to the show for keeping up with continuity like that.
Fly is good but I nominate Chardee Macdennis for best bottle episode
I've always had a weird soft spot for Caputo so I was excited to see this episode. The flashback was pretty heavyhanded (the wrestling playing on the TV, his girlfriend spelling out his nice guy complex) but I think it shed a lot of light on why Caputo is the way he is.
I've been looking forward to a Leanne backstory ever since she spoke German a few episodes ago, and this didn't disappoint. A solid episode (not counting the Ruby Rose plot, which hasn't really grabbed me yet).
2 years and one spin-off later and your dream has come true!
Time to skip all the Alex and Piper scenes!
