You’re partially correct. Because I do like the way the MK7 GTI looks compared to my previous MK6 and MK5, but I like the MK5 more than the MK6. The MK8 is an ugly duckling and I’m not just saying that from a current owner’s point of view. You don’t need to be there in person to assess the overall shape and lines. The

Wait, no, we’re all wrong:

This is the anti-Harley Davidson’ing of the Corvette. I’m not saying their buyers were exactly the same, but the Venn diagram was damn close.

Yeah. This is what greeted me when I was looking to see if BMW had anything to offer me:

As the owner of a Mazda RX-8 and my more ‘reliable’ STI, I would probably get along with this guy. People like us who gravitate to these maintenance nightmares are a special kind of person/stupid. In fact, one of my good friends from back in MI is probably on par with this fellow. He owns:

I saw this car for sale a week ago and almost bought a plane ticket.

It’s nuts that they’d be lugging these everywhere.  I’m sure they’re bolting with the rubber to Houston, where Craigslist and tons of little tire shops will make wheely short work of the rubber.

Nah. I have a 96 Golf and a 97 Jetta (I own two for a reason). They break pretty regularly, but are easy and cheap to fix, the last generation of VW I would say that about. Mk3 and Mk2 are nearly the same mechanically, as well.

I had the 1st generation Jetta 16V.  Then I had two generations of the VR6 motors in a Passat Sedan and the 2008 R32.  I do love the VR6 motor.  It’s almost bullet proof!

Too much money for an old car. As someone else already stated. NP at $6K, CP at 9.

Neither was any other Pontiac GTO. :b

It’s *vital* that we never forget that Pontiac made these.

This is Jalopnik. The correct answer is Saab.

Sadly it’s not coming stateside

I’ve had the same thought since the new raptor came out in 2016. The market is there, the raptors sell like hot cakes. Take a king ranch or platinum trim F150, drop it a few inches, big wheels, and drop in the GT500 motor/tranny = New F150 Lighting. Done.

For less than the cost of the conversion alone, I’d rather buy a Viper truck.

This might be the cleanest engine of any 200k mile car I’ve ever seen.

Seriously? You can get a Toyota Soarer Aerocabin for $10k, and it actually looks good:
