I am here for Winn's complete lack of self-respect in this area.

Agreed, but mostly because this started as just a quick Crusade gag, and I'm not quite sure how we got here.

It is a truth, universally acknowledged, that Season 1 of any space opera show is utter toss in comparison to the rest.

*watching Crusade*

Them being hurriedly set up two episodes before she gets kidnapped does not inspire me with confidence.

Not only did they meet, it was an honest-to-God meet-cute. Which makes it kinda weird that the show not only never followed up on it, but has basically pretended it never happened.

Headcanon for 1: Earth is considered a safe haven for refugee species, because it is, in comparison with other planets, a meteorologically unstable supervolcano covered in spiders.

Don't get me wrong: Winn's my boy (as much as a fictional character can be), I'm rooting for him, she seems nice; but when a CW show of all things burns through 2, maybe 3 episodes worth of romantic plot in a single push, I kind of doubt their commitment to the storyline.

You know what makes it worse? This could have been easily fixed by baking the wingman concept into Guardian at the beginning: Winn builds the suit, and in exchange, James teaches him how to be… not less of a dweeb, but a more self-assured one - much like Clark & Supes did for young Jimmy.

The same reason you shouldn't do a story about racism and cast only white people.

Nope, she left him after his dad went to prison.

I'd have said that having a non-passing alien love interest, by definition, becomes a metaphor for The Other, regardless of original intent. But maybe hire an actually marginalized actress when you do it.

If only DCTV had a functional alternate universe they could do a solid Toyman story in…

By the way, this is now one of my favourite sentences, and I regret I can only upvote it once.

Well, clearly that wasn't emotionally rewarding for him, so it's good he's now become a superhero with a completely flawless track record (thanks to his long-suffering genius friend) AND gets incredibly good press (which is self-penned, and doesn't mention his long-suffering friend).

Ah, yes, I remember this arc from season one:

If they're going to bring in Winn's mother at some point, they should really cast Nana Visitor.

I have not seen that movie. But yes.

And Jeremy Jordan knocked it out of the park, as he does whenever the
writers aren't trying to make him the "funny" character. In case anyone
in authority is watching, make Winn intelligent and sincere first, and
funny second.

Kara going for a "fixer-upper" makes sense to me, because Kara is, without question, a compulsive fixer; however, that's not an emotionally healthy thing for her, so the show needs to be playing this as her learning that "fixing" him is not her responsibility. Which it isn't doing.
