Great to see Lamborghini is employing Praying Mantises to help design their new cars. Hopefully someone was beheaded for this monstrosity, because it really toes the line between “hypercar cool” and “over-designed ugly”.

THIS.
Think about how many trucks and suvs the LS/LQ is in, that’s more than enough to justify the development costs, and launching it in the ‘Vette would make a lot of sense when it comes to accepting it in a Tahoe or Silverado. Chevy is clearly saying something with the new mid-engined layout, and a whole new, DOHC engine…
I don’t think packaging would be an issue. The one in my Corvette fits just fine.
The main reason to do a flat-plane crank on a mid-engine V8 is that you can have pulse turbocharging (equalized exhaust pulses through two twin scroll turbos) while having the turbochargers outboard of the engine for heat control. The blackwing does pulse turbocharging, but requires the turbos to be in the valley of…
Hey hey, thanks!
Who said anything about a big block? When he says “not a small block” he just means the architecture will be drastically different, not larger. The big block hasn’t been used in a production car since the 454 trucks back in the 90s, it won’t be coming back.
Well DeWayneV8 (his user name on here) called this a while ago.....gotta give credit where its due.
Isn’t there any upper limit for flat planes? I remember people were impressed when Ford’s Voodoo motor in the Mustang came out at 5.2 liters and a flat plane. Vibrations become an issue with larger displacement flat planes.
Flat plane crank + manual trans > supercharged cross-plane with automatic.
Without markups, this is actually a great value. Too rich for my blood, but I can’t think of anything that could beat this for under 100k
Should cost at least $150k. Too many terrible drivers can afford this.
Why (should, not would) anyone buy one instead of an XF sportbrake?
Aww. I really really appreciate that!!
I cannot wait. You’re truly a skilled writer for making me laugh as much as you do.
Well Doug, it turns out you were right. GM builds a 6.2L Tahoe in Russia for the Russian market.
Not just one, but one and biased. It’s like when Audi people talk about how great their B5 S4 has been and they only had to replace the turbos twice.
...but most Range Rover people I talk to (including myself) think the G-Wagen goes a little too far down the “asshole” scale for serious consideration.
I used to work at a CPA firm. One of the partners had a Range Rover Sport. A Range Rover Sport with electrical gremlins that stranded him on the shoulder of hwy 290 in Houston at least 3 times in the 2 years I worked there. He cursed that Range Rover’s name multiple times.
