We need to avoid the word “Fired.” Fired would indicate that the employee has been shitcanned because of their own doing (violating policy, performance, etc.).  Laid-off indicates that they were let go due to unrelated internal forces, like company reorganizations, change of leadership, money, ideas, prospects, etc.

There are no such thing as silent sonic booms, nor is there a way to go faster than the speed of sound without some form of boom.

It goes a little bit beyond Hollywood, considering that type of script structure goes back many millennia and exists in many other scripts, such as books, comics, manga, theater, and even Shakespeare.
