I’ll offer this ray of hope. Probably won’t get out of the greys, but it’s worth saying.

As a renter, you are responsible for basic maintenance (including things like filters), and for anything that you break or damage (like clogged toilets or sinks). I was with you right up until books. Books are awesome looking and utilitarian and will be the best thing going when the power goes out (for good). You're not alone at all here. The key is to really keep looking. There has to be something you'll enjoy, and even if the activities are things you don't enjoy, you can mix them up with something you do. For example, I like to walk on a treadmill for a little while or hit a stationary bike and watch a half-hour podcast
