Martha! Oh, Martha! Exquisitely beautiful! Strong! True to herself. Amazing. Martha is my favorite beyond favorite. But Donna Noble? She's US. SPOILER ALERT! The thing I love about Donna is, well, she's not insanely gorgeous like Martha or Amy or Rose or Clara. Donna has an ordinary life, ordinary job, and

I remember being so amazed at Colleen Dewhurst because she WAS Marilla. She just OWNED that. And the thing is, physically, she doesn't really resemble the Marilla described by LM Montgomery, but the essence of that character — Colleen Dewhurst captured it. Ah, Anne of Green Gables. That series of books pretty much

NOT my favorite companion!

Is that true? The black ladies/cheerleader thing? I wouldn't know because I have NEVER SEEN A SINGLE EPISODE. I have seen parts of some episodes. Sometimes. I never liked Seinfeld either — I never saw a full episode of that, either. Funny. I am from NYC — I have almost no interest, apparently, in watching shows

It sounds to me like you are a total freaking CATCH and the man who gets you is going to be a lucky, lucky man!

I think he stole a paper written by one of my freshmen...high school freshmen.

Nothing, dear. You have eyes. That's what happens.

I was raised by my mother who didn't go back to work until I was in the fourth grade and my father. When I went to boarding school in the 9th grade, I had one friend who told me when she was very young she thought her nanny WAS her mother and another who learned her nanny's language — not English — and the parents

You don't need a reason for anything Anya. Ever!

Of course it does. Different feminist believe different things just like different Jews believe different things just like different Christians believe different things and hey different people believe different things. The basic definition of a feminist is a person who thinks all people, regardless of sex, should

BTW, I agree with you about how horrible it is that dogs have to hold their pee or poo for hours. I have walked friends' dogs for free for this very reason. I have Crohn's disease and the idea of not being able to get to a bathroom — awful. I feel for those dogs.

Oh, it's the case with animal rescue groups. It happened to me with a CAT. Same reason — you aren't home 24/7 and no one if your home is. So weird. I've had cats all my life, too.

Yeah, that happened to me, too. Weird. It's like — how am I going to pay for this animal if I don't work? Food, vet bills, toys he will discard in favor of a piece of crumpled tinfoil? How am I going to BUY this stuff if I don't leave the house? This was a CAT, too, not a species known for needing 24 hour a day

I wish every animal, everywhere, all the time, could feel what that little dog's face is expressing. I wish nearly all people could feel it, too — yes, nearly all. Not all.

VaginaWolf? VaginaWolf? I bow down before your nym!

That is NOT a toupee! That is a space alien that crawled to the top of his head and died.

Excellent points. I am shocked that Michael Ian Black, a Jew, does not know that everyone does not pronounce "tahini" the same way. But my Israeli relatives sound worse than your boss. It's not "ch" sound — it's really guttural, like a "gh" sound with a lot of spit.

Michael Ian Black is a Jew and therefore should know that not everyone pronounces tahini the same way. Some people say "tahini," just as it looks. My Israeli relatives say "taghghghgina" with this gutteral sound where I just make the "h" sound. I can't reproduce it by typing, but I tried.

Thanks to Shangri-la's post, I am now able to articulate WHY I don't see a man offering a woman a seat as sexism. I know — you're all thrilled. Anyway, I see sexism (racism, etc.) as something that hurts people, that denies them access or rights. A man giving his seat to woman does not do that. And to those women

Oh, well said, Shangri-la! SO well said! Thank you! I don't think it's sexism and now I can articulate why better (thanks to you). I realize that I define sexism (racism, etc) as something that hurts another person (or group), that denies them access or rights, etc. — and this does not. Thank you, Shangri-a!
