Targaryens were allowed to take second wives, so even if Rhaegar's marriage to Elia Martell was still intact, his marriage to Lyanna would still be legitimate.

Completely agree. I'm so over the POC being used as the catalyst for some white person's emotional awakening. Seen that play out literally hundreds of times on screen. Plus, I can only imagine the cringeworthy (and obvious) racist "jokes" having to do with accents, the whole docile Asian woman trope, etc.
"No clue how the show would've carried out this incredibly sensitive and serious subject, obviously, but they perhaps it was possible that they gave just as much an empathetic portrayal of the woman at the center of it?"
Healing at the expense of another's misery, though? The narrative you're putting forth completely disregards and makes light of the Phillippine woman's struggle. A woman of color treated as a mere plot device. The only way I could watch a show like this if it were from the wife's point of view.
Jason's older than Sookie. Hoyt mentioned back in Season 2 when he and Jessica started dating that he was 28.
