OK, don't just namedrop Unix to sound more tech-y. As far as I know, OSX is more similar to free bsd, which has some relation to unix. Also, there's nothing bad in liking OSX. It's simple, fast, completely unusable for gaming, which happens to be the main topic.

I can help with Stalker: read Roadside Picnic by the Strugatzki brothers. It's an easy read and is what the movie's based on.
