Don’t forget all the Civic-like owners that will end up tinting the SHIT out of their front/rear lights.

I’m Anti-tesla/anti-elon whatever you wanna call it, but The model 3 performance is 55k for much better performance. It might be the only one right now, but it’s a harbinger of where EVs are going to shift the automotive performance paradigm.  Heck, even the Mustang Mach E is sub 4 seconds, and it’s a mini crossover.

that S3 hatch/wagon is gorgeous and i really wish we could get that here. Its interior is far superior to the Golf R as well.  Really love that S3 hatch thingy

These prices are misleading. Prices in the UK include the 20% VAT, which we don’t pay this side of the pond. Realistically the MSRP will be closer to $44k, which isn’t too far off what the last gen cost.

No way. Prices in the UK include the 20% VAT, which we don’t pay this side of the pond. Realistically the price will be closer to $44k, which isn’t too far off what the last gen cost.

Yeah, I said the same thing.

So, realistically, the next Golf R is going to be a $70 000 vehicle in Canada. At a minimum, and likely closer to $80 000 CND with available options on the lot - which means, out the door, you’re probably talking $90 k?

A low quality car means I’m more likely to buy another car in 5 years, but I’ll be damned if it’s the same brand. ;)

I’d like Mercedes to step slightly away from the “luxury” side of things and right into “high quality” what I perceive they used to be.

The only complaint about this awesome story is the title makes it sound like it was someone’s personal car, not a prepped M4 by a business that makes cars designed for this...

It’s also larger than the Bolt and also isn’t styled like a $20k econo-hatchback, which should give it a big advantage over the Bolt aesthetically.

Ok, now we are talking. Range for the US is still a little short, but this will definitely be a hit in Europe. But these are the types of EVs that will start to seriously shift the market.

Thanks, Trump.

I know someone who has leased the same model car every three years for the past 15 years. The only reason he is not going to get the same car next year? The car doesn’t come in a manual anymore.

Wait. What. Sorry i’m stuck on this comment “My 3-year lease is up in January. In a normal world, I would just get a new 3-year lease of the same model vehicle.”

I admire your commitment to reminding us about your 850, even when it has almost no relevance to the article at hand.

You’re right, there’s something fishy about the math I quoted. I couldn’t find the right CPI metric. Bottom line, I think, is that car prices increase slower than the general inflation rate, and definitely much lower than other costs like healthcare, education, etc. Yes, new car prices are expensive relative to wages,

Do you even sedan, bro? I have owned sedans for decades, and I have never had any of the problems or issues you seem to be so gosh darned angry about. My current full-size sedan gets 40-45mpg and carries real adults and luggage quite comfortably. Weird hill to die on, as the folks around here are fond of saying.

Sedans are pointless? A vehicle made for transporting four people on actual roads? Back when I was driving 12 hours every other weekend I had a Subaru Legacy. It was the ideal vehicle for traveling on the highway in the rain. If you’re making the case that wagons are preferable I won’t argue, but sedans meet the

15 years ago, you had a larger percentage of the population able and willing to buy a new car for $15k-$25k. As that demographic shifted away from buying new (due to other expenses/debts climbing - housing costs for many more than doubled in this time, student loan debt, etc.), automakers shifted towards the higher
