This is a terrible way to be judging candidates. Although I suppose if you don't conform to their strange ideas, you're avoiding working at a strange company anyway.

This is why I'm on the fence about it rather than being completely against it. I haven't upgraded my monitor in 5 years despite having built 3 totally new computers since then. I just wonder about the pricing of a 4k monitor six months from now, and if DisplayPort 1.2a with the adaptive-sync technology is worth…
The problem with doing this is that it's somewhat wasteful to buy a monitor and run it at 50% of its potential, plus LCD monitors look their sharpest at native resolution. Also, some of these cheaper 4K monitors are effectively two separate monitors in one (I believe it's called dual panel), meaning that you actually…
Extremely well-written post. You're completely right about SLI, it's very hit or miss depending on the game. That's in large part why I never bothered with it, and +1 as well for the scaling problems in windows. I tried using it with the computer connected to my TV because at 1080i everything is far too small to read…
As much as I want to go 4K, I don't wanna buy a $500-600 graphics card (or two) to continue enjoying my games at playable framerates. I have a GTX 660 right now which can handle high settings at 1200p at reasonable framerates, but at 4K, the benchmarks I've seen drop that number to 5fps at best.
+1 for that idea.
Yeah there are quite a few good sites to get game deals from. However I think the Steam sales have quite possibly the best prices. I picked up Tomb Raider during the holiday sale for $15, and that game is still selling for $60 regular price.
I've been patiently waiting for this sale to start. If you're a gamer with a huge backlog of games already, waiting for these kinds of sales is a great way to avoid paying full price at launch to buy a game you know you won't have time to play for a while.
I bought my most recent set of summer tires at Costco, and the cost savings was impressive. I got Bridgestone tires for a lower price than what my mechanic quoted me for a Chinese brand I'd never heard of. Not only that, but the price was still less including mounting them on my rims, filling them with nitrogen and…
Without cup holders, the 20-plus car lineup every morning at the coffee shop near my house wouldn't happen. Think about it...
Well, if you're one of *those* people that actually needs to carry a drink in your car, it serves you right.
This definitely is a "your mileage may vary" type of situation. Some compact cars and other "over-engineered" designs may place the filters in ridiculous places, but your average American car is generally simple enough to replace. But again, you'll never know until you check to see where it is; but at the very least…
It definitely can be intimidating to work on a car, but some things are so simple that even if you try to justify the time savings of having it done for you, it still isn't worth it. Something like an air filter can be easily changed out in 15 minutes, but your mechanic will charge a hefty sum for doing that.
The manufacturer writes up and includes that maintenance schedule in the manual for a reason, and it's worth following. The only time you should be weary is when mechanics (especially quick lube chains) are suggesting to have things done that are specifically mentioned not to be necessary.
+1 on the Haynes manual. This past winter I finally got fed up with my barely functioning heater so I looked up where the hoses leading to the heater core were and flushed it out myself. I now have a heater that's working better than ever before (the interior actually warms up fast enough for the fan to not be on full…
If you have to be topping off brake fluid after 30K miles, or ever, you have bigger problems at play.
I'm not so sure about this idea. You should be doing all these simple checks regularly for yourself anyway; if only because it's a great way to know if your mechanic is being honest with you, this goes even more for you people out there going to the dealer outside of warranty.
I think there was a time when this was true, but especially lately, they seem to be marketing it as less of a basic, entry-level car and something more along the lines of a smaller camry. With the design refresh, they even seem to be trying to market it as a sports car...
I used to work at a restaurant of sorts and we ran our hood filters through the dishwasher every other week. Prior to getting the dishwasher, someone would get the unappealing task of scrubbing it down, but no matter how much elbow grease you put in, it never came out as clean as it did from the dishwasher.
This is interesting to me. F.lux battles it out with the custom color settings I set with the nvidia control panel, so being able to effectively use both with G.lux is a win-win.
