The expansion of Uber and the need for drivers to work more hours or drop out, leading to only the most desperate of persons to work for Uber, means that you won’t get that experience in future.
You can only deduct that if you have enough other deductions on your taxes that push you above the standard deduction. Most people working these extremely garbage “gig economy” jobs will be taking the standard deduction, so being able to deduct all of the wear-and-tear on their car won’t matter much.

Actually, it only seems incredibly profitable for the drivers if you don’t take into account the added costs for gasoline, repair, and depreciation.
