They are actually missing the data wires inside the cable, or there are also adapters (https://amzn.to/2OiCgGz) that convert a normal cable to charge only.

My wife worked in eating disorder treatment for a while, and while I was very much on the outside of the issue, I never heard of any person in eating disorder treatment that didn’t have some kind of serious comorbidity, be it depression, anxiety, or a litany of other mental health diagnoses.

Oh, I got it. I was playing along. Sorry that you missed that.

I think this joke has too many layers for a simple comment. I got it, but I winced.

It’s an ironic echo, read the opening statement and look at the comment.

It’s a joke. The context for the joke is that Gizmodo basically mocked people for using Microsoft Word due to misplaced complaints about security exploits that rely on user error and yet here they are telling everyone that the platform they told everyone to use instead has the same problem.
