You miss the major parts. Steam, Activision, and every other platform have just as many exploited account issues, and just as many security breach issues. Steam however has been taking a 30% cut of all sales for years. For a game company, it’s FAR more cost effective to make and use your own launcher at that point.

There was a large and heavy argument years ago regarding the inclusion of ‘easier’ raids in World of Warcraft. The hardcore crowd thought that allowing this dumbed down version of the raids was diluting the challenge. Casual players loved the idea they would be able to experience a part of the game they had not before.
