Dramatically less than ICE cars, which has been discussed and proven repeatedly. ICE can’t compete with an EV on overall environmental impact, even when the electricity comes 100% from coal, which isn’t the case anywhere in the world and electrical grids are quickly moving towards solar, wind and in fewer areas

In most places, EVs already have a lower environmental impact over their lifetime than an equivalent petrol/diesel car. At the same time, every single every electrical grid is getting greener every year. If you buy an EV today, it may only be charged with 20% renewable electricity, but in 10 years that might be 40-50%.

Folks will figure out how to recycle the lithium.

The problem with other non-CO2 plants is the way they make power. Windy day, lots of wind power, calm day, no wind power, sunny day, lots of solar, night, not so much.

For me, it’s the fact that a chunk of Uranium smaller than the size of a couch can power an aircraft carrier for 30 years.

That’s where I’m at also. The cheapest way to mitigate the peakiness and unpredictability of solar & wind is going to be to massively overbuild production capacity. That way even when conditions are marginal, you can still produce enough. This will allow for smaller energy storage systems and fewer fossil fuel backup

I don’t get the boner for nuke plants.

I’ve long been highly critical of hydrogen as a transporation energy carrier; however, in defending my criticism I’ve found the main argument/fever dream of hydrogen’s proponents has been to ultimately only use hydrogen from renewable sources so no fossil fuels. This hydrogen would only be produced from *free* surplus

This is what I don’t understand about the reboots. Say what you want about Jeremey, but he is likely one of the greatest automotive journalists of all time. May and Richard had similar experiences before landing on TG. Their literary mastery is what made them work so well on a scripted TV show.

Shephard is well known as a car enthusiast. Hell, his daughters are named Lincoln and Delta. It’s why he was hired.

because the inevitable comparisons to the original Top Gear aren’t really fair”

Precisely this. I like Dax Shepherd and Rob Corddry anyway, and Bovindgon is a fine writer. I think the show would be worth a watch, but I’m not going to download yet another streaming app.

Agreed. I also really liked the original American one and thought they really hit their stride and had a good chemistry. Adam’s “flying Cadillac” bit is still one of my top 10 favorite TV moments ever.

Maybe if it was on a public channel like PBS (similar to how Top Gear was on BBC) but if you are going to make me get another service, sorry no.

This. I will happily watch it, but I’m not signing up for yet another fucking subscription just for that. Put it on the MotorTrend channel and build the cost into your rates.

This. Good or bad, I would watch it if it was on a platform I already subscribe to.

Their issue won’t be comparison to the British original, it will be to the American original, which went unmentioned here. By the second season Rutledge, Adam and Tiny Dancer had already developed a strong chemistry and style that was notably different than OG Top Gear.

I mean - I’d love to watch it if it didn’t require another bloody subscription.
Couldn’t Netflix or Amazon or someone have done it?

Man this brings back some memories - all it’s missing is a rebadge as a Holden Apollo and it’s my childhood ride (well, minus the AWD).

Fools voting this down should reevaluate their life’s priorities.
