The refreshed Mirage doesn’t look too bad, I think?

Those new Terras are AMAZING
This is honestly one of the reasons why I wasn’t too upset to give my Golf back during Dieselgate. Finding The Good Pump was a huge pain in the ass, especially out in the sticks. I nearly ran out of gas in the Adirondacks.
Every time I see one of these on the road I give it lots of space. They’re always being driven by maniacs and I don’t want to kill them if they hit a bump and flip over or break a wheel off or something.
SCENE: FREMONT, CALIFORNIA, 1984
Toyota: Here’s our AE82. Just make it exactly like this.
GM:
It’s too bad too, because my buddy bought a ‘19 Camaro with the 6-speed and the turbo 4 last year and it’s a hoot of a car. They should be pushing that thing like crazy, but they don’t even advertise it.
It wasn’t so much “why bother” as it was that the big 3 basically had no idea they were making bad cars. Paul Ingrassia’s book Comeback gets into it when discussing the trouble NUMMI bosses had in the 80s with trying to break bad habits ingrained in GM from top to bottom. They simply had no idea there was a better way…
You are absolutely right. That’s an error on my part. It should say “most”. A lot of import cars got around the need for it because their cars already polluted below the regulation standards.
I think the styling basically drove the feeling home. Not only did the cars look bad, they also sucked.
Fun Fact: the word “malaise” is never said in the speech!
There’s some debate on when the Malaise era actually started. The speech came in 1979, but the Malaise Era itself really started in 1973 with the first Oil Shock. Efforts in the late 60s and early 70s by CARB and the newly created EPA to make cars less dirty had in turn made them less power AND less fuel efficient.…
Reverse: I highly recommend finding a copy of “What the Heck Are You Up To, Mr. President?” which gets into Jimmy’s Crisis of Confidence (malaise) speech.
At the time it was actually really well received, but the problem is that Carter refused to capitalize on the good publicity from it and his opponents ended up…
This is the correct idea. The V shape can be tweaked and adjusted so you can work it into the car all over the place if you want.
I don’t really care for it, but I don’t know what else you can do with branding in the automotive era we find ourselves in at the moment. Every brand is diluting itself into the sun with bland crossovers, the branding might as well follow suit.
Eventually we’re just going to end up with a blob manufacturer called CAR…
Grant was so cool. He was always so visibly excited for everything he did on MythBusters. What a huge loss.
Welp, I'm into either the base model in blue or the Black Diamond in orange. Either way I gotta have the steelies.
Ah shit I like that
Lots of imagery in that video channeling speed off-road. Who doesn't like a good trophy truck?
The new Bronco will be both better, and worse, than this.
I love it. I absolutely love it.
