Stennis “human interest” story from 2002

You never ended up in overflow berthing...

You know what’s more impressive? This pic:

Awww...I liked the Stennis masquerading as the Akagi or Hiryu. Now we can’t imagine simultaneous port and starboard air ops with CVNs...

Nah, leave it. We can pretend its our version of Hiryu and Akagi. :)

Looks like it was taken during golden hour. It’s hard, even for me, to screw up photos during golden hour if you manage to focus and have even half decent composition.

The 91N6E radar is a 3D phased array acquisition radar but not a OTH radar. The conjecture is that these are data linked to the Nebo (L-band and VHF radars) for better VLO detection but that’s not a OTH system either.

    Radar horizon.

Lol...nice fantasy. You’re going to board a burning carrier with your elite commandos to assault it AFTER hitting it with 3-4 1000lb warheads to “keep everyone head’s down”.

Well..given they stopped making the MAT-120 lets use a variant of the 120mm M984 with 54 M80 dual-purpose submutions. Assume a 50m dispersion pattern and you’re killing 12 boats per minute starting around 10km because in this case, like hand grenades and horseshoes, close counts. The Mk46’s max effective range is

“The idea isn’t to SINK it, the idea is to CAPTURE it!”

And once or twice just a coast guard cutter.

Add a Patria AMOS to the LCS and you’re done.

Yes, if you use tactics that the sim can’t handle and then the Blue force defenses are made to stand down because of a in game limitation it’s really easy to kill the blue force.

None of which applied near Aden. The houthis don’t have any of this.

The claim, as I understand it, is that the fleet squadrons are all able to do the needed missions.

Hmmm...is there a vulture’s row on these ships?

Army CWO pilots > butter bar Marine pilots

Turboprops are one class of jet engines in as much as they rely on a gas turbine for propulsion. Unlike the turboshaft engines in a helo they often still do generate a jet exhaust even if the primary mechanism is the prop.
