I’m pretty sure that one of their major plot beats died in December 2016.

TFA: Han teaches Rey, rejected/defeated by Kylo
TLJ: Luke teaches Rey, rejected/defeated by Kylo
TLS: We’ll see whether they have enough for Leia teaches Rey, rejected/defeated and/or embraced by Klyo

That is EXACTLY how I think of him too. The more technical aspects of film making I believe he (alongside Michael Bay) is top notch one of the best in the business. Its the stories he can never get right.

...change “director” to “writer”, and I’ll agree 100%.

That’s my take as well: it’s “John Harrison is totally not Khan.” It’s “the thing in the train car isn’t an alien.” The movie is in the can at this point, and there’s little to nothing Abrams can do to change it. And he has always, always, always been a far better showman and salesman than he is a director. He missed

I’m still absolutely lost on why Lucasfilm/Kathleen Kennedy didn’t have major plot beats mapped out for this trilogy before letting anyone work on it.

I’m not talking down to the minor details, but at least like “This is Rey. This is where she starts, this is where she needs to end up. Fill in the blanks.”

You put way too much stock in a film series about Space Samurai.

Johnson labored under the incorrect and arrogant delusion that there was something about Star Wars that needed fixing.

I’ve also been a Star Wars fan all my life and I love TLJ so I dunno why you think Johnson was raising a middle finger to us.

I’ll believe it when I see it but a leopard can’t change its spots. JJ is a very workman like director, inventive and daring he isn’t. We’ve seen it time and time again during his career and the more he does it the more his “mystery box” style storytelling tricks feel old. Try watching Star Trek Into Darkness again

I really loved The Last Jedi, so I’m glad to hear that Abrams won’t be returning entirely to TFA (which I also loved). I kind of love the idea of Rise as a hybrid of both the old and the new. Hopefully a blend of both will satisfy more people than not, because I’m just not sure I have another round of #discourse in me.

“Scheduling Conflicts”

So... you ruined the arguably the best and most spectacular genre show of all time to work on Star Wars... only to quit Star Wars.

Bless their low standards having hearts.

“David Benioff and Dan Weiss are incredible storytellers,” Kennedy told Deadline

Great. So rushing GoT to an end was...

Many, many of them. Including people who argue that the last season was a masterpiece and people hating it are because their pet theories didn't pan out.

Sweet baby Jeebus. There are actual D&D apologists. What a time to be alive.

So we got a GOT season 8 with all of the quality of a term paper written the night before it was due after some binge drinking for no reason at all?
