Are players of this game just wishing it was a slice-of-life genre, free of conflict and antagonism? Was this game marketed as such, to be considered a bait-and-switch?

It is mobile that I am referring to, aye. At least on desktop it seems I can get rid of the cover-near-all ad by maximizing/un-maximizing the window.

Even auto-playing videos (that you can pause) is nothing compared to un-closeable, un-minimizeable header hover ads that take up 50% of the screen.

There’s something of a difference between writing a storyline and actually presenting that story, though.

Mini Metro ultimately felt left me feeling frustrated and unsatisfied just because there never seemed to be an end; as far as I could tell, things just kept escalating until your guaranteed loss (though for me before even then, as I just check out and give up). If this game is the same, then definite hard pass.

I took it to mean that any democratic official (i.e., official of a democratic country), as juxtaposition to this clearly anti-democratic official.  I could be wrong, though.
