but in these cases the packaging is completely different. plus its not like you can just grab one off a shelf (unless Im just shopping in super secure stores, most places have the tablets all locked up other than the demo) so you'd HAVE to talk to an employee and request it by name, or have been shopping online.

although declaring bankruptcy puts you in a pretty tricky situation too. Sucks that his life is basically screwed either way(I dont know anything about whether or not bankruptcy would even work)

I'm not sure how comparing an ipad to a computer got brought into this. I was just saying that for $500 if you aren't making informed decisions it kinda is going to happen.

They never bother miniaturizing prototypes. because if you have to add/remove components then you have to start from scratch. Im sure when they have it market ready it will be in a smaller/sleeker enclosure with less wires going everywhere.

and most of the complaints I hear are coming from enthusiast gaming/gadget blogs. Average users don't even know there is a windows 8 yet.

It's possible that once you learn the new shortcuts/keystrokes things will actually be faster. Not guaranteed but its a possibility. And they might not serve any purpose in windows 8, but starting to streamline things for the future does serve a major purpose.

You don't have to use metro apps at all. It would be like if windows 7 booted with the start menu open. at worst its a minor annoyance. I always disliked the start menu for PC. 99% of what i use it for is "win key -> type to search" which behaves the same way now. (aside from the extra click to show settings for launching device manager and such, which is annoying).
