It was The Palm.
In 6th grade, I had a small party with a few friends at a skating rink. It wasn’t like a “party”, we just got dropped off to go skating and none of our parents stayed.
My worst was my 6th. It was my first year in school and so the first one where a bunch of kids were invited. And a lot of kids showed up. Sounds good, right? Problem was my alcoholic mother was in no way equipped to deal with a houseful of little kids and parents she didn’t know. So she was taking frequent trips to…
Last year on my birthday, after a lovely dinner at a fancy restaurant, I had a heart attack on my way out the door; ended up flat on my face on a Beverly Hills sidewalk. Worst. Birthday. Ever.
This movie was a pleasant surprise as I thought the trailers looked awful. It was a fun romp and my only real complaint is that it took the characters until pretty deep into the third act to team up. Even with as little screen time as some of the had, they felt more real and emotionally complex than most female…
You need to keep going on the HQ animated series. Trust.
a super fun movie with a killer soundtrack. i think they marketed it the right way and the wrong way at the same time. i thought they should’ve had an sdcc panel to get the hype started. despite the low numbers, it’ll have a great cult following. i’m so happy for the good reviews.
It was a lot of fun to watch. Some pacing issues in parts, but more than compensated for by the acting and humor - especially Margot Robbie, who is a fucking force of nature* as Harley Quinn in terms of screen presence.
IDK how I feel about comparing it to Wonder Woman, which was very much an archetypal hero origin story, and is also a movie that mostly features one woman surrounded by men. Birds of Prey/ Harley Quinn did something much more ambitious by giving us three origin stories for the Birds and the beginning of a redemption…
I loved the movie and how badass the women were in it (same with Aquaman and Wonder woman) and yes the scene with Black mask Humiltaed the women for laughing at the wrong time was uncomfatble and very great to show what men can really be like.
Ugh ok, I honestly don’t want to defend MA or anything having to do with it, BUT.
Have you been to many casinos? Mohegan Sun is actually one of the nicer ones and nicer than any I ever visited in Atlantic City.
This is real good.
“That night, I saw a woman placed on a throne without a kingdom while no one watched.”
No matter how you change the rules, it will always be about that. And I know that and they know that. These women know what a pageant is, it’s just that they know they can win. And if the entire enterprise of femininity is fucked, then why not find ways to win where you can? Why not capitalize on it and earn a little…
This article is more beautiful than its subject.
Shakira was out here reppin’ multiple cultures. https://www.sbnation.com/2020/2/2/21119649/shakira-tongue-meme-super-bowl-2020-halftime-show-explained-zaghrouta
It’s a zaghareet, a Middle Eastern ululation (Shakira’s half Lebanese). Sometimes the person doing it will hold their hand just above their lips to hide the tongue motion. But that’s how you make the sound.
