True, but typically only for small front end loaders (essentially large lawn tractors), which aren’t generally in high duty loading applications. I don’t know of any backhoes that use hydrostatic transmissions, and though some small articulated 4WD loaders do, none of the larger (100+ HP) units do.

This tractor isn’t hydrostatic.. looks like a Farmall N Series. They have “shuttle shifting,” which basically means you can just pop in the clutch and shift into reverse in any gear.

As far as I know all of the Cat haul trucks and some of the Komatsu trucks are mechanically driven with fairly normal drivetrains. Other Komatsu and all Hitachi trucks use AC electric drive systems.
