Kubrick made yet another one of his jet black comedies while King was old school horror. The film includes direct insults aimed at King that no doubt stung when he saw the film.

His novellas and short stories are more disciplined.
"Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" for example is a classic. The film made the right decision to stay as close to the original material as possible.
