You're half right. Laterally, the contact patch will be wider with underinflation and, as you state, the center will lift decreasing most of the linear contact gain. HOWEVER, longitudinally, the tire will have a longer contact patch which does not have the adverse affect of center lift and therefore the contact area

Same. I've had mine since 2002. The only issue is the potentiometer (volume knob) crackles and pops when adjusting the volume. It was a common problem solved with some cleaner but now the cleaner isn't even fixing it.
