Hot take: red is a bad colour for anything automotive. Seats, convertible tops, brake calipers, cars themselves. I’ll give brake lights a pass, even though a healthy dose of yellow to make them orange would work for me just fine.

I agree with your assertions save for your distain for white. To me there are many good color choices that work well with white. I’d add that I see sad faded black tops while most white tops I see on the road are presentable. That could just be from the more intense UV exposure here in Denver though.
