I grew up an evangelical, “speaking in tongues”, born-again Christian. I was anti-abortion, anti pre-marital sex, and had no idea what LGBTQ+ was (it didn’t even have the letters back then).
It’s INSANE that a book about relationships written by a 21-year-old became a hit. Absolutely insane. 21-year-olds are IDIOTS. *Especially* 21-year-old dudes. I can’t believe that actual grown ups took him seriously - even evangelical weirdos.
Even though my parents were incredibly religious - I mean hell, my dad is an ordained southern baptist pastor - they *never* once pushed this stuff on me at all. It started gaining traction right when I was moving into my teen years and there was a big emphasis on the True Love Waits thing. But it’s like my parents…
Yeah, it’s a crime the pain he caused, but he was a 21 year old indoctrinated into a belief system, writing about something he probably had almost no experience with.
I have to imagine that when he was a twenty-one year old homeschooled evangelical who’d never experienced any of the stuff he denounced through anything other than the lens of his parents telling him how awful it was, he was probably pretty sincere. That doesn’t make any of it less awful, but he wasn’t so much a…
Yes, it would have been nice if he had realized this before he wrote his book, however the book was a reflection of part of that culture and someone would have written something similar.
I am fascinated by this. In many ways, his journey kinda resembles mine. I read his book when I was about his age - and boy did i buy that hook line and sinker. But I guess it’s easier to have someone else tell you what to do instead, of having faith in yourself to figure it out on your own. There aren’t many…
One of the few good things that comes from these type of announcements is to confirm, one more time, that the whole thing about evangelicalism is finally cracking. They've always been a bunch of sanctimonious hypocrites.
Maya Rudolf is absolute perfection in this show. She gives me life.
I have long detested Anna Wintour for a variety of reasons but she has deployed her snobbishness and pettiness in answering this question that has almost made me like her! BTW Michelle Obama is all the things Wintour says she is.....! There is no dispute here.
My parents visited Denver from the south and like to talk about how they “love” Mexican because a couple times a month they’ll go to a white-bread place down there where Cholula is far too spicy for the clientele. First it took an endless ordeal to convince them not to go to Casa Bonita even though their friends swore…
Before BW3 changed their name, the third W was for weck.
Based solely on my personal experience with the women in my life, I can only say that women are great and should drive whatever they want. Except Nissans, because they’re trash.
I don’t really have any patience for this right now. Every single candidate on the Dem side, including freaking Tulsi Gabbard, is an incalculable improvement over Trump, who’s not only the worst president in US history but one of the worst leaders of a country in, at least, modern history. We can get back to our usual …
I’m very sure she does not sleep on her stomach.
I’m currently pursuing my PhD in Neurobiology and have made this a huge part of my career since I’m interested in pursuing a career in science policy just as much as doing bench research. I see this attitude all the time in my department and previous labs I’ve worked in at other institutions. The default is always…
That TP is the best, man. It’s just thick enough that it does the job but not so thick that the shitty [heh] plumbing in my house rejects it. It’s very good TP.
I’m unclear, but I’m also doubtful this fucker will ever get impeached. It would never pass the Senate anyway, and definitely not with a redacted report.
