You haven’t really experienced cognitive dissonance until you’ve driven around the northernmost county in the entire continental US and seen all the Mainers flying Confederate flags in the yards of their double-wides.

The sole person I know who moved south from here in the far north was a dude from Mass who got married to someone from one of the Carolinas, and they were starting a family and wanted a huge (and in my view utterly hideous) suburban McMansion for cheaper than here. I do wonder what will happen when his kids hit school…
In Portland, naturally. lol
Perhaps it’s to commemorate the official sanction the USA just gave Turkey to commit genocide, or, in our esteemed President’s words, to “have it cleaned out.”
This.
I have been cringingly awaiting the responses to his passing from Trump’s America, which are bound to be utterly classless, insulting and offensive to the human spirit. *sigh*
Ha — I’m up in Maine and bought a mattress in Salem not long ago. No witchy dreams to report so far.
Exactly, lol. What he thought a pre-law degree should be, was never clarified. This particular dad was some kind of Wall Street bigshot and I don’t know what his educational background was.
Yes. My original point was more about reframing the author’s regurgitation of the standard reactionary Republican question “how much will your plan cost us as outraged and overburdened taxpayers?” as the more compelling, helpful and obvious “how much will your plan save every citizen in our household budgets?” I too…
I’ve been rather impressed by her ability to delegate plan formulation to intelligent people, so my hope for a Warren presidency would be that it consists of (to borrow from a better commenter than I) “Katie Porters all the way down”.
To be fair, Americans are already wage slaves just for health insurance, but yes, this too.
My American husband has been lobbying me for a few years to retire in Germany and I suspect very strongly that we will. It will indeed be a huge relief to grow old in a country where one’s fellow citizens don’t actively want one to die immediately in order to save them money. Plus, I’ve waited my whole life to enjoy…
Tens of millions of Americans voted for a man who openly used a children’s cancer fund as his personal goddamned slush account, so I know it’s a very long shot.
That’s ... an amazing question for a high school teacher to pose. It would have been perceived as offensive even in my 1982 high school — gotta ask, was this somewhere in the American South?
With any luck, the Satanic Temple will be ALL over this one immediately.
Oh, I’m sure that was just a little “gaffe” and Daniels is the very model of modern sober intellectual reflection, just as we desire all our political reps to be.
My husband was wondering which of the Dem males would be crowned by the media now that Mighty Joe has fallen, and how soon it would take. I told him to look no further than the dozen or so articles out already today talking about Buttigieg’s newfound “feistiness” and “power”. Gods save us.
It was only the second time that ever happened in my college/uni teaching career; usually the various deans were pretty good at putting the kybosh on that sort of contact, but some parents apparently just Must.Be Heard.
Well hell, that’s been the Republican M.O. for all governance since forever.
Warren lists a rather long and impressively detailed set of her ideals for reforming corrupt governmental practices here:
