Also read the late Christopher Hitchens's God Is Not Great, particular the chapter 'Does Religion Make People Behave' and the pages (182-184) that further demystify Gandhi. I really wish that E.T. had won that year myself.

Knowing Miller, it just might be the same, so I wouldn't get your hopes up.

But it was his project and his idea to do this movie, not anybody else's. And he did it independently with no input from one of the Big Six studios in Hollywood.

Then, who should do it?

I'll defend Prometheus to my dying day.

Using a white boy as the protagonist aside, he has a right to make this film, and should not be blasted simply because he made films that weren't 'arty' enough for some tastes.

Gandhi was just as fake as any other biopic anyway (and was exposed as such here.)

Just because the guy made Independence Day and Godzilla (1998) doesn't mean he can't do other kinds of movies that aren't 'bad'.

Where were the 'better' filmmakers to make this story into a movie all of this time? And why haven't they done so?

Again, how do you know that?

There aren't a lot of black directors with the clout of Lee who are queer than would be able to get a movie like this made.

I don't know. But I do know that it isn't made by one of the Big Six studios, so it might not be showing at the local multiplex.

Fuck you too. And you made the post blasting him on the basis of his sci-fi flicks.

That doesn't mean anything, except that you're bigoted against anybody that makes fantasy films.

Despite the misstep of casting a white male lead, how do you know he doesn't?

The movie's independent, and will likely only play in a few big cities at arthouse theaters like Toronto's TIFF Bell Lightbox or at an Alamo Drafthouse cinema.

That was Ron Perlman in it.

Cox would put anachronistic shit into it just to make the movie 'interesting' as he did with Walker. Waters wouldn't know what do do with it at all.

Any way you slice it, this movie proves that only out underground alternative independent-minded directors can do gay and lesbian movies about subjects like Stonewall.

Mine too.
