Where is it stated the Kusanagi is male? I've read the manga and watched all the tv shows and movies, and I never remember that being stated or even implied. There was one scene where Batou asks her why she doesn't use a male chassis, but her actual gender is called into question.

We don't get any of the upmarket hatchbacks here. So no Audi A1 or A3 Sportback, no Mercedes CLA, and no BMW 1-Series. The most upmarket hatch we get is the VW GTI and occasional Golf R.
