Burton used to be my favorite director but yeah, he’s gotten so bad in recent years. Basically I LOVE everything of his up through and including Big Fish with the sole exception of Planet of the Apes, whereas I’ve hated everything of his after that with the sole exception of Sweeney Todd, which barely counts.

Returns has a lot of interesting ideas. The problem is they’re pretty much all just thrown in and then immediately ignored.

Gonna have to respectfully disagree there. Returns has some absolutely fantastic performances and quite possibly my favorite film score ever written, but as far as the actual movie is concerned it’s a disjointed, nonsensical mess that’s only watchable out of nostalgia today. Whereas ‘89 is still my all time favorite…

I’ve found this game to be the biggest disappointment in a good long while, but god damn if this doesn’t make me excited to (slog through bullshit labyrinth of menus and RPG systems that have no business being anywhere near a fighting game and) give it another go.

I’m just waiting for Hollow Knight.
