I really loved how Portal 2 used dynamic music to communicate the progress you were making with puzzles. Mark Brown has a good video about what he calls “adaptive soundtracks:”

Grocery charity is both the saddest (because why should it be necessary) and most awesome (because most liberating) charity in the world. I was once at T&T market in Vancouver, and short like 90 cents on my bill at the store, and I was desperate for the food, and without another word the bagger leaned over and scanned

The part about this that bothers me the most is that he’s publicly apologized, and very much seems to not be that person anymore. If we start telling people that there’s no way to ever recover from or atone for their mistakes, they won’t bother trying, and the world will get a whole lot darker.

This is really beautiful. Black Panther isn’t just an amazing movie. It feels like a correction, a beginning, a chance. It was so wonderful to see all of the kids, especially the little girls, watching the movie.

“Can we stop vilifying women who aren’t doing Times Up well enough?”

She’s not allowed to make political statements. William is president of Bafta. Why should she sit out? Can we stop vilifying women who aren’t doing Times Up well enough?

Just last night I was thinking, as I read various semi-insane reaction pieces to Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri, that the need for simplification fantasies is starting to destroy people’s ability to process good stories. There is a growing contingent of the viewing audience that shows up and expects to
