“I just wish he’d hire folks to help him write dialogue in a way normal people talk, and maybe hire an editor to structure a story into something that’s coherent.”

If they had kept all of that ending but replaced the fight with Ellie asking Abby about Joel and the Fireflies, I think it would have paid off even more. Have that image of Joel bloody happen when she takes Abby down off the cross instead of when she gets on the boat. Then when they get to the boat, Ellie just talks…
Hulk: Ultimate Destruction did get a follow up, in the Incredible Hulk movie tie-in game. It's not as good, but it has improvements in some places, like destructable environments. You can destroy entire skyscrapers in Incredible Hulk, whereas the biggest destructible thing in Ultimate Destruction was the giant robot…
100% agree with you about Andor. That series has confirmed what I think many people know: there are so many more exciting, fascinating ways to explore the world of Star Wars, and to execute on it at the highest level. It showed us a side of the universe that we’ve never seen, and it’s an excellent show in its own…
Tomb Raider’s about as bad. They have increased the amount of customization you can do to each element, but it’s... hard to get into.
LOL at the grunting opening a barn door.
The last I played before Sword/Shield were Gold/Silver. I bought Sword and it was terrible. Arceus changed the formula enough to keep me playing to the anticlimactic end. I don’t think I’ll ever play another one.
As much as we all like to joke about Geoff Keighley being “Doritos Pope” and a shill and whatnot, I think the dude legitimately just wanted to create “the Oscars of video games” and this is what it takes to make it feasible. Can’t really fault him for that, and I don’t see anyone else producing an alternative at this…
at the same time - missing your goals by 45% is pretty insane.
I’m a long time Halo fan and I enjoyed the show for what it was. My wife enjoyed watching it with me since she has no prior knowledge of the series and her brother had some choice words about the show, he’s been a long time fan like me. Then I know some people that love Halo and just refuse to watch the show.
In most games I’d be like WHAT NO YOU ARE DISMANTLING THE FOUNDATIONS OF CINEMA
I’m reminded of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy when it comes to Scott Pilgrim at this point; the creator is directly involved in the adaptation process, and each iteration has drastic changes made that they themselves approve of.
I’m a white man who has benefited greatly from my privilege over the years (even if I haven’t always been aware of it) so I know my voice probably shouldn’t be the loudest on this issue, but my god even I’m sick of how many talentless white men have infested this industry I love.
The thing about Link is that he should speak as little as possible. What experience does Thomas Brodie-Sangster have playing a character who solves problems with lots of different tools and items but who hardly ever says anything?
I keep seeing people using the photography example as a counterargument here but none of them address the fact that photography eventually did off commercial painting and illustration and make it substantially harder to be an artist.
“I never stopped enjoying swinging around as Spider-Man”
He had the unfortunate reaponsibility of being the first one to bring the Bad News to the industry, but the next guy won’t suffer the same fate.
Like ten years ago, WB released a straight-to-DVD animated adaptation of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns with Peter Weller as Batman. I remember thinking, “Hell yes” when his casting was announced. Weller has this presence and distinctiveness in his voice that seemed perfect for that version of Batman, and I…
I ended up 100%ing Valhalla due to sunk cost fallacy, cleared everything from the map. It was not worth it. It’s exactly what you say, the game was far too padded out with nonsense and repetition, there was a good 25-30 hour game trapped inside a 80+ hour experience. I appreciate that they wanted to make the world…
I am turning 39 in two weeks, have a full time job, and a 6 year old. This year has been a procession of phenomenally generous games that immediately turn me into a ball of anxiety and shit because I just don’t have time to play them. I could damn near cry hearing that this game has manageable scope.
