I think the thing that's turned me off so many of the Rifftrax I've tried to watch is that, while the original cast is still there, the tone feels off. The guys sound like grumpy old men playing themselves very obviously reading directly from their scripts. The feeling of spontaneity and goofy fun seems missing.

I like nods like the ones mentioned if they're subtle and not too obvious. The problem is, there's a thin line between in-jokes and pandering, and films that go over the top with cameos and the winks and whatever often go into pandering territory.

Gojira is most definitely a great "introduction to modern metal" band, and just a generally amazing metal band in general.

Totally, I myself generally don't care about the "dinosaur metal" bands that all peaked creatively in the late 80s, especially when their entire discography can more or less be summed up in one song.
