I don’t think anyone believes that they’re a “hip magical monolith”, I expect people believe that there is a large contingent of politically active teens and young adults who congregate on a specific social media platform. As with all social media platforms, there are different groups.

It is when they’re still a child and haven’t grown up to be Hitler?

I wish I had more to offer you, but my properly organized bookmark file is... not accessible from where I am, thanks 2020. Here are a few to get you started - I’ve put out a call to some friends whose fields are related, hopefully I’ll have more links soon!

I would gently encourage you to read the literature - there’s lots of it, much of it widely available - about the importance of stories for children, the lifelong effect they can have, and why millennials in particular have clung to their childhood stories in a way that makes a great deal of psychological sense.

Yep. An absolute crystal-clear image of the reason why it doesn’t matter even a little bit if “some cops are good people!”. The institution is set up to make sure that even the mythical “good people” work in the worst of ways.

Honestly, having seen him grow up as Canada’s closest thing to one of the Kennedies and then move into politics after a very long time as a private citizen seemingly doing his damn best to remain private, I think he’s an idealist. A failed idealist in many ways, who has done a lot for Canada but also failed us - and

Well, no. And no Canadian would blame him. But as I’ve said in another thread: we’re reliant on America for our economy, and Trump has already used his financial hold over us to use us as a scapegoat for some of his many problems. When our economy tanks, POC are disproportionately affected. We have our own deep

No, we’re just dealing with a highly unstable man with a world of power, who has already shown himself to be more than willing to use Canada as one of his many scapegoats for redirecting attention from his failures. In the middle of a worldwide health crisis and unprecedented economic meltdown. Not to mention that,

Sounds great in theory while we’re all rightfully furious, but I wouldn’t want to be an essential worker (read: forced into martyrdom by the failed state that is America) who then gets all the updates on people who have died because if they quit they’d have no money, and they have a kid, and etc, etc. I know people in

As long as you’re keeping others safe and have somewhere safe to go if he creeps out, good for you! Good luck on your adventure!

Mostly seems to do some charity work and otherwise enjoy his wealth. I can’t argue even though I irrationally dislike the guy, that’s probably what I would do if I had his cash.

I’ve kept a running total: 15 separate men slowly wandering the wrong way down a clearly marked isle, talking casually on their phone, picking up things and setting them down, brushing past me and my mask while I froze in place.

Huh.

That’s how I feel. The more I love an artist’s output, the less I want to know about them sometimes.

Yeah, but it’s us independent business owners who tend to be much, much, much more understanding and open to the idea that their business surviving this is less important than human survival.

“ensure their survival whenever this is all over”

A whole line of ants marching confidently across the wall of the A&W I used to eat at after work when I was a teenager.

If you had read the article, you would know that cat tests and human tests use different chemicals, and also... PPE has nothing to do with test kits, for humans or animals. Saying this is like saying “Cats can get tested, but cancer still exists?” Totally unrelated things.

Their commitment to saying these things without talking about per-capita is really exhausting.

Precisely.
